Small is Beautiful Oil on Linen 6" x 6"
This weekend I switched back to a smaller format to renew my spark. It helps me feel the exhilaration of painting when I complete something sooner. I expect that I'll calm down soon and try a larger format, but for now, this is working for me. That is another wonder of painting - I get to do whatever I choose, and that can be a metaphor for life. Rather than doing what I think I should, I can do what works best for me and this week small works best for me. Small is beautiful.
P.S. The apple is not real. It is amazing how great fake fruit can look these days. The bowl is real.
There is something so appealing to me about this painting. It has a sense of quiet mystery, maybe because of the colors, or the composition, or both. Beautiful! And I really like the Golden Pot below too. Terrific work!
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, This is one of my favourites too. I've been focusing on composition as much as possible and I fiddled with this setup and the lighting for a long time. So even though it is simple, it has a lot of focused concentration packed into that little 6" x 6". Thank you for your comment, I'm so glad you noticed!
ReplyDeleteThis is great and I don't know how you do it! I have never painted on anything smaller than 10x12 and that was small enough. You have my full admiration!
ReplyDeletethanks Liz... small format takes small brushes and painting slowly. It is amazing what our eyes can see. Far more detail than I can paint.
ReplyDeletegreat blog. Even greater paintings.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gary. How did you find me? I checked out your blog. Wonderful paintings! Some of the views remind me of my home province, Alberta.
